Encounter mapped in unexpected places.

As Arts Council England and the Government have recently recognised, the creative re-use of empty shops is to be encouraged. mapped festival are keen to build on this approach.

Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw claimed: “Transforming empty premises into galleries, studios or rehearsal spaces will help restore confidence and regenerate local communities. Instead of boarded-up shop fronts we want to see high streets being used by local people in a way that will excite and engage them.”

Mapped has taken over a number of Lancaster’s disused shops and transformed them into studio, gallery and workshop venues. The generosity of several local businesses, St Nicholas’s Shopping Arcade and Marketgate Shopping Centre has made this transformation possible.

mapped festival of contemporary arts is sponsored by local businesses; The Borough, Matthew Paul Hair & Beauty and VVV Health and Leisure.
